About me |

‘Photographing wildlife is the only time that I am patient. It can take hours if not days following a female cheetah and her cubs to achieve the right shot in the best light. Even then, luck plays a huge role in taking the ultimate image.’ ‘Lions, leopards, cheetah, elephant, hyena, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and hippo all play a huge part in my photographic library.’ ‘On a recent trip to Kenya, Africa, I was fortunate to come across the acclaimed wildlife photographer Anup Shah. Anup had an important impact on my own photography, which until that point had a ‘scatter gun approach’. Anup can sit in his Land Rover all day watching two or three female lionesses playing with their eight young cubs and take only one or two brilliant shots. I’d take 70 or 80 shots, the vast majority of which would be rubbish.’ ‘Since having the opportunity to work alongside Anup and listen to his philosophy, my technique has slowed dramatically and I’d like to think this has had beneficial results on the overall image. The hunt is always on to better your last work.’ Sam has travelled extensively throughout Kenya, Cuba and India. The quality of her work was rewarded with a semi-finalists position in the 2008 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Her next trip to Kenya is September 2009 for the next migration. |
